FAQs

Are the results permanent?

We like to refer to laser hair removal as “permanent hair reduction.” With each treatment, your hair follicles are targeted with pulses of light emitted from the laser.

At various times, some of your hair follicles are dormant and some are active. The active follicles are targeted during each treatment and then do not grow back the same way. Some of your dormant hair follicles may become active between treatments and then get treated in your following session. As a result after six to eight sessions, most of your hair follicles should be treated.

Some clients see almost complete hair elimination and some clients see a reduction of hair so that what remains is just a fraction of the prior levels of hair growth, which get treated in annual or semi-annual touch-ups at a greatly reduced rate.

What type of skin and hair is best for laser hair removal?

The laser’s energy is attracted to the pigment of hair the way sunlight is attracted to darker clothing. For this reason, laser hair removal works best on those with dark, coarse hair and a light complexion. However, people without this combination can still get good results. For the optimal result if you are tanned, we recommend you protect your skin and let it lighten before being treated.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most clients compare it to the feeling of the snap of a rubber band against the skin. It depends on the client but most view it as much simpler and less painful than most other methods of hair removal.

What are the most popular hair removal treatment areas for men?

The most popular treatment areas for men are the scalp, back, upper cheek, lower neck, back of the neck, legs, and between the eyebrows.

What are the most popular hair removal treatment areas for women?

We treat all areas for women including facial hair, legs, underarms, arms, bikini, and Brazilian treatment.

What is the difference between using IPL and laser for hair removal?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light, and an IPL machine is not a laser. IPL technology is primarily used for photorejuvenation treatments. We offer photorejuvenation treatments with Forever Young BBL, which you can read about here. We have found that lasers dedicated to hair removal provide safer, faster, more effective, and less painful results than IPL technology for hair removal.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT

  • Shave the hair in the treatment area the evening prior to your treatment. If necessary, your service provider might request to leave a small area unshaved to evaluate the type of hair at your first appointment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and/or use of sunbeds for a minimum of 4 weeks before treatment. If there is a possibility of vacation plans during your treatment period, please discuss it with your service provider to make the appropriate adjustments to your treatment appointments.
  • Cease application of any auto bronzing products on the treatment area, for a minimum of 2 weeks or as instructed by your service provider. In the meantime, skin exfoliation is required.
  • If you have had a history of peri-oral or genital Herpes Simplex Virus, your service provider may recommend a prophylactic antiviral therapy. Please contact your doctor to receive an appropriate prescription.

  • Avoid application of deodorants the day prior and after your treatment.

Cease application of:

  • Retinol, Hydroquinone, Arbutin or any other skin brightening ingredients: 7 days before treatment.

Skincare Protocol

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO AFTER YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT

  • Immediately after treatment, there might be erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) of each hair follicle in the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer.
  • Your service provider may recommend an optional cooling method after treatment to ensure your comfort ex. ice packs.
  • Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur. This is not new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofa sponge.
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. You can shave the treated area between the treatments, but you cannot use any other depilatory method.
  • Avoid application of make up right after treatment to avoid skin irritations.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use of sunbeds for a minimum of 4 weeks post treatment. The application of bronzers and use of sunbeds are completely contraindicated during the period of your treatment.
  • Avoid application of deodorant for 24 hours after treatment to avoid skin irritation. The post care product will help soothe the skin appropriately.
  • Avoid exercising and swimming for a minimum of 12 hours post treatment or until any erythema and edema is gone from the skin.
  • Avoid saunas, hot yoga, massages, and hot tubs for a minimum of 48 hours after treatment.
