PicoWay Tattoo Removal

Traditional tattoo removal systems have been limited in their ability to treat all tattoo colours, breakup ink particles, and completely remove tattoos with a reasonable number of treatments. It’s time to experience the PicoWay difference for tattoo removal at Victoria Park Medispa.

What is PicoWay Tattoo Removal?

PicoWay is the world’s fastest tattoo removal system. New technology allows PicoWay to deliver energy to the targeted ink in ultra-short pulses that are so fast, they’re measured in picoseconds — that’s one trillionth of a second. Different laser wavelengths are used to target specific colours. This combination of speed and different wavelengths allows for greatly improved results, more comfortable treatments, and fewer treatment sessions.*

Why Victoria Park Medispa?

Victoria Park Medispa is one of the only facilities in Montreal to use the advanced PicoWay tattoo removal system.  We were also the first Medispa in Canada to introduce PicoWay’s ultra-short 785 nm wavelength which specially targets blue and green inks for optimal removal.

With its three light wavelengths and super-short pulses, PicoWay can treat more colours of tattoos, with fewer sessions, and greater client comfort.  Our experienced team under medical supervision will work with you to ensure you get the optimal result you deserve.

FAQs about PicoWay Tattoo Removal

What does a PicoWay tattoo removal laser do?

The PicoWay laser generates light energy that is targeted at colours matching the specific laser wavelength in ultra-short picosecond (trillionth of a second) pulses. These pulses shatter the tattoo into very tiny particles, which are then eliminated by the body’s natural processes. The PicoWay laser emits less heat energy than traditional lasers providing a safer, more comfortable treatment for more skin types, with fewer side effects.

What makes PicoWay better than other tattoo removal systems?

There are a number of things that make PicoWay unique and, we believe, the best solution for tattoo removal in Montreal.

The first major difference is the use of photo-acoustic vs. photo-thermal technology. With photo-acoustic, laser energy is delivered so fast that even the smallest ink pigments are shattered. With photo-thermal, the laser energy is delivered more slowly so that only the larger pigment fragments will shatter.

The PicoWay’s picosecond (one trillionth of a second) technology delivers photo-acoustic power and shatters ink pigment with little photo-thermal effect—thus ensuring that the surrounding tissue does not receive much heat. The old technology, called Q-switched lasers, generally took 12 to 16 treatments, use nanosecond technology delivering photo-thermal and a small amount of photo-acoustic energy. The surrounding tissue is traumatized with the ink pigment being more slowly heated and broken down. The skin needs more time to heal between treatments and the ink particles need more treatments to break down.

The second major difference is the use of three light wavelengths, with each light wavelength targeting a different colour ink pigment. This allows the PicoWay to better treat all colour of tattoos, especially historically difficult to treat greens, reds and yellows.

These differences allow the PicoWay to treat more tattoo colours and types, with less sessions, less discomfort, and better results.

Am I a candidate for tattoo removal?

The PicoWay can remove tattoos on all skin colours. We recommend coming in for a consult with one of our experienced laser technicians to learn more about tattoo removal and what type of results to expect. During the consultation we will have a look at your tattoo, skin type, pricing and discuss other factors that we take into account for treatment. If you decide you would like to proceed with the treatment, we will treat a test patch on your tattoo to ensure that there are no adverse reactions from the tattoo removal and there is a positive healing process.

How many PicoWay tattoo removal treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depend on many factors including the age, location, depth, size and type of tattoo. Most tattoos require five to eight treatments with the PicoWay for optimal results.

What will my skin look like after treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, the treated area will have a white discolouration (white frosted crust). Redness and swelling will also occur. This is normal and will disappear slowly over time. Some blistering may occur as this is the body’s natural healing process, but this is rare. Gauze and ointment will be applied at the end of the treatment to protect the area from infection.

Can I remove only one part of my tattoo?

Yes, we can use adjustable spot sizes with the PicoWay to precisely remove only certain parts of your tattoo.

What conditions would prevent me from qualifying for laser tattoo removal?

Some of the conditions which would prevent a treatment for tattoo removal include:

  • Accutane therapy must be stopped 6 months prior.
  • History of photosensitivity to infrared light
  • Acne breakout or infected areas cannot be treated.
  • Pregnancy
  • Seizure disorders
  • Photosensitizing medications must be stopped 3-5 days prior.
  • Medications and supplements: Iron supplements, anti-coagulation therapy, herbal supplements (i.e. ginkgo, ginseng, garlic, fish oil) may cause bruising more readily.
  • Topical medications and skin care products must be discontinued 72 hours pre- and post-treatment.
  • Active skin infections: open wounds or skin that is infected cannot be treated.
  • You cannot be treated if you have recently tanned skin. You must avoid the sun for 30 days prior to treatment. If you fail to avoid the sun, blisters and hypopigmentation/hyperpigmentation may occur.  You must also avoid direct sun exposure for another month after treatment.
